I would like to request you to co-sponsor S.Res.274, a bipartisan resolution introduced by 15 senators in July, 2019. The resolution condemns the Chinese Communist Regime’s violent suppression of the Falun Gong spiritual practice, including the killing of Falun Gong practitioners and selling their organs for profit. It also expresses solidarity with Falun Gong practitioners and their families for the lives, freedoms, and rights they lost for adhering to their faith.
The two-decade long persecution of Falun Gong is one of the worst crimes of the 21st century. Several reports by international human rights organizations and the U.S. Department of State indicate that hundreds of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have been sentenced to labor camps and prison terms, and typically receive the harshest treatment of all the prisoners in custody.
On June 17, 2019, an independent tribunal in London, chaired by Sir Geoffrey Nice QC, who worked at the International Criminal Tribunal and led the prosecution of Slobodan Milosevic, released its final judgment. It concluded: “Forced organ harvesting has been committed for years throughout China on a significant scale and that Falun Gong practitioners have been one – and probably the main – source of organ supply.” The tribunal concluded that forced organ harvesting in China continues today.
S.Res.274 is life-saving and an important step in further exposing this new form of evil. The resolution will also help our country’s transplant patients and the medical community to make informed decisions when it comes to illicit organ transplantation, thus avoid becoming an accomplice to this crime.
